Dominion Energy Charity Classic announces 5K presented by Performance Food Group
RVA’s Sports Backers to manage race on September 14
RICHMOND, Virginia – A partnership including Dominion Energy, Sports Backers and Performance Food Group has brought to life a new 5K race to benefit local non-profit organizations that participate in the Dominion Energy Charity Classic’s Birdies for Charity program presented by TowneBank. The Dominion Energy Charity Classic, a PGA TOUR Champions golf tournament, is dedicated to giving back to the Richmond community and since 2016 has helped generate more than $9.3 million for local charities.
The new road race will take place on Thursday, September 14, starting and finishing at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery – West Creek. The race will begin at 6 p.m. and the field will be limited to 500 participants. The entry fee ($40 through August 31, $45 from September 1-14 if space is still available) will benefit the nonprofit organization of the participant’s choosing at the time of registration, with nearly 50 local nonprofits to select from. The registrant also has the option to add an additional donation during the registration process. Registration opens today at Dominion Energy Charity Classic 5k presented by Performance Food Group (runsignup.com).
“We couldn’t be more excited to offer this new 5K to Richmond area runners while also benefiting many of the non-profit organizations that participate in the Birdies for Charity program,” said Kaitlin Luccarelli, Community Outreach Coordinator for the Dominion Energy Charity Classic. “With Sports Backers already involved in the Birdies program, coupled with their institutional knowledge on executing events, the partnership came together organically.”
As part of the registration fee, participants will receive a t-shirt, medal and one beverage ticket to redeem at Hardywood after the race. With the race going up and back along West Creek Parkway, the course will be fairly flat with an elevation gain of just 139 feet. Water will be provided throughout the course, and after the race concludes there will be a local live band and food trucks at Hardywood for participants to enjoy.
“PFG is proud to partner with Dominion Energy and the Sports Backers on this inaugural event that will be held in our backyard in West Creek,” said Scott Golden, PFG’s Director, External Communications and Community Engagement. “We believe in better for all and look forward to supporting the Birdies for Charity program and its non-profit partners that do so much for our community.”
