Major Champions Ernie Els, Stewart Cink, Darren Clarke and David Duval to compete in 2024 Dominion Energy Charity Classic
RICHMOND, Virginia – In the first round of player commitments for the 2024 Dominion Energy Charity Classic, the tournament announced today that former PGA TOUR major champions Ernie Els, Darren Clarke, Stewart Cink and David Duval will headline the field at this year’s tournament. The annual PGA TOUR Champions Playoff event will take place October 17-20 at The Country Club of Virginia’s James River Course.
Ernie Els currently leads the Charles Schwab Cup standings, powered by three wins in 2024 including one senior major, the Kaulig Companies Championship at Firestone Country Club. He has six victories since joining PGA TOUR Champions in 2021. Among the South African’s 19 wins on the PGA TOUR are two U.S. Open victories (1994 and 1997) and two Open Championships (2002 and 2012).
Stewart Cink will be making his first appearance in Richmond. He joined PGA TOUR Champions in 2023 but played sparingly last year. Of the six tournaments in which he has competed in 2024, he has five top-10 finishes and secured his first PGA TOUR Champions victory just a few weeks ago at the Ally Challenge in Grand Blanc, MI. Cink had eight PGA TOUR wins in his career and his major victory came at the 2009 Open Championship when he defeated Tom Watson in a playoff. A resident of Atlanta, GA, he is currently 12th in the Charles Schwab Cup standings.
Darren Clarke has four wins on PGA TOUR Champions since his arrival in 2019. During his PGA TOUR career he won 15 times around the world, with his major coming at the 2011 Open Championship. He has accumulated six top-10 finishes in 2024 and is currently 15th in the Charles Schwab Cup standings. Originally from Northern Ireland, Clarke now spends most of his time at his home at the Abaco Club at Winding Bay in the Bahamas.
Former world number one David Duval won 13 times on the PGA TOUR in a five-year period from 1997 to 2001, including the 2001 Open Championship. Two of his wins came in the Commonwealth of Virginia at the 1997 and 1998 Michelob Championship at Kingsmill in Williamsburg. He joined PGA TOUR Champions in 2022 and will be making his second appearance in Richmond this October.
