Field Set For 2024 Dominion Energy Charity Classic

First playoff event field has combined for 471 wins across PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions

RICHMOND, Virginia – With the conclusion of the 2024 PGA TOUR Champions regular season, the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs begin this week with the Dominion Energy Charity Classic. The tournament will see a 70-player field competing October 18-20 at The Country Club of Virginia’s James River Course in Richmond, Virginia.

“The players on PGA TOUR Champions have been playing all year for the opportunity to qualify for the playoffs and compete for the Charles Schwab Cup,” said Executive Director Steve Schoenfeld. “It is exciting to see the field come together in anticipation of another outstanding event, with the ultimate goal being to continue to tournament’s tradition of supporting nearly 200 charities in the region.”

The players set to tee it up this week in Richmond have combined to win 250 PGA TOUR events and 221 PGA TOUR Champions events. In addition, 14 players who have won a PGA TOUR major and 20 players who have won a PGA TOUR Champions major are among those playing in this year’s Dominion Energy Charity Classic.

Former DECC champion and current Charles Schwab Cup No. 2 Steven Alker (2022) is joined by four other past champions as the event celebrates its ninth year: Charles Schwab Cup No. 19 and World Golf Hall of Fame member Bernhard Langer (2021, 2017), No. 30 Miguel Ángel Jiménez (2019), No. 68 Scott McCarron (2016) and No. 71 Woody Austin (2018).

World Golf Hall of Fame member Ernie Els and Alker enter the week atop the Charles Schwab Cup standings at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, while Stephen Ames sits third and Richard Green at fourth. Other members in the Top 10 of the standings competing this week are K.J. Choi (No. 6), Y.E. Yang (No. 7), Paul Broadhurst (No. 8), Jerry Kelly (No. 9) and World Golf Hall of Fame member Pádraig Harrington (No. 10).

The Dominion Energy Charity Classic is the first event in the three-tournament Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs. This week’s event will see players competing with even more on the line, as each Playoff event provides double points ($1 = 2 points). At the conclusion of the tournament, the top 54 players in the Schwab Cup standings will advance to the second playoff event – the Simmons Bank Championship (Oct. 25-27) in Little Rock, Arkansas. The top-36 players will advance to the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship (Nov. 7-10) at Phoenix Country Club.

Since the inception of the Dominion Energy Charity Classic in 2016, the tournament has helped generated more than $11 million for charities in the local region. For additional tournament information or to purchase tickets for the 2024 event, please visit www.deccgolf.com.
